What's the best month to go to Costa Rica
Costa Rica may not be on your radar when you think of top travel destinations, but it certainly should be! With miles of pristine beaches, an active volcano and plenty of rainforests to explore, Costa Rica has much to offer anyone who visits. When is the best time to visit Costa Rica? This guide will help you plan your trip so that you can have the most memorable vacation possible.
September
The first and last few weeks of September can be a good time to visit Costa Rica. In September, daily highs usually reach around 80 F (27 C), while nighttime lows tend to dip into the 60s F (around 18 C). However, rain showers are possible at any time during your trip, so pack layers that you can remove or add depending on conditions. If visiting for business, September is also conference season in San Jose. Many events schedule sessions for morning and afternoon hours because of high temperatures in June and July. Conference-goers may find better deals on hotels midweek rather than Friday through Sunday nights.
October
The perfect time for a trip in Costa Rica is October. The weather is beautiful, as it’s not too hot but there are a few rainy days here and there. Hurricane season ends at October so if you want to go on a little adventure while visiting, you can make sure you won’t have any bad weather to deal with. There’s also not many people traveling around during these months which will be great for your relaxation and for checking out those deserted beaches that only locals know about! With all of these good things going on, one might think what could possibly go wrong? Well, just remember that every month has something in store that can cause some issues.
November
While many people assume that their summer months of June, July and August are going to be some of their cheapest months for flights, November is actually a great time of year to score deals on airfare. November also has one big advantage over other months: it’s not as crowded. Sure, you won’t find a sunny beach paradise with white sand and blue skies in November. But what you will find is plenty of time to plan activities without worrying about crowds and tourists. And if you do want to visit during peak season, there are still ways to save money. The key is planning ahead and booking your flight at least three weeks before your trip (the earlier, the better). That way, you can take advantage of flash sales or last-minute discounts that airlines offer throughout their websites. If booking your own flight isn’t an option for whatever reason, sites like Kayak make it easy to find cheap tickets from travel agencies around the world.
December
The dry season in Costa Rica is December, January and February. During these months, you’ll want to make sure you bring an umbrella, as it’s quite common for it to rain on and off in San Jose during these months. You might also consider visiting some of the beaches outside of San Jose that are less touristy but still beautiful. Beaches such as Nosara, Hermosa or Boca Barranca. If you travel during peak season (mid-December through April), keep in mind that hotel prices are more expensive and hard to find availability. During December there are multiple Christmas/New Years celebrations in different parts of Central America so expect large crowds if you travel at that time!
