The river's starting and ending points
The Celeste River passes through the Arenal-Tempisque Conservation Area and Volcán Tenorio National Park in Costa Rica before emptying into Lake Cocibolca (Nahuatl: Koapolkan), commonly known as the Great Lake of Nicaragua. The Buena Vista and Quebrada Agria rivers combine on the flanks of the Tenorio volcano to form this river.
How long does the Rio Celeste River run?
There are 14 kilometers of blue path that are surrounded by a plethora of tourist attractions in the surrounding area, giving it an even more distinct air: woods, lagoons, dyers, and other spots that we will discuss in greater detail later.
The Jungle in Costa Rica
A tropical dry forest is one that grows in locations with little rainfall. The dry season, however, only lasts six months, from December to May. The rest of the year, it rains heavily, replenishing the system. Much of Guanacaste province is covered with tropical dry forest. This type of forest has two distinct tree strata: those that reach the canopy and are 20 to 30 meters tall, with thick and short trunks and wide and flat crowns; and those that are 10 to 30 meters tall and are in the undergrowth. 20 meters tall, with twisted trunks and little crowns. It has the most arid tropical forest area in Latin America, and its climate is perfect for agricultural and cattle development.
The river's ecosystem
Both the plant life and the animal life contribute to the overall allure of the location for tourists. Palms, ferns, bromeliads, and orchids are some of the most notable examples of different plant species. White-faced monkeys, sloths, howler monkeys, anteaters, pumas, tapirs, and peccaries are some of the wildlife that can be found here.
The flora is very varied, highlighting a high diversity of palms, heliconias, ferns, bromeliads, and orchids, among others. As for the trees, outstanding are the aguacatillos, zapotes, pilons, lauraceae, marias, oaks, and the jícaro danto, which is endemic to this range and is characterized by having the flowers and fruits attached to the trunk.
The color's enchantment
Because of the white material that coats the rocks at the bottom of the river bed, the water seems to be a brilliant shade of blue. This is because the river bed is located in a canyon. The mineral in question is a mineral made up of aluminum, silicon, and oxygen, which when found in Rio Celeste in concentrations as high as 566 nm, is responsible for the electric blue hue that we observe.
