Once you’ve arrived at the waterfall’s access point, you’ll need to down around 250 steep paved stairs to reach the base of the waterfall. There is a bit of a difficulty on the return ascent, but the views are spectacular

Hiking from the main entrance of Tenorio Volcano Park to Rio Celeste waterfall takes about two hours (nearly 6.5km) . In reality, that means you’re going at a pretty decent clip; chances are if you’re moving at a steady pace and taking in some of nature’s beauty along the way, it’ll take closer to four hours. Bring snacks, water, sunscreen, and insect repellent—and remember that it’s better to be safe than sorry (and back home by nightfall). Also note: It can rain more heavily than usual even when there is no thunder or lightning in sight . If an approaching storm makes you uncomfortable, turning around is a good idea.
Is It Difficult?
Hiking to The Rio Celeste waterfall is a popular trip. It’s not difficult, and it’s short – about 2.5 hours there and back. You’ll need a sturdy pair of shoes, a rain jacket (the park can get wet), comfortable clothes (you’ll be hiking on steep terrain), and drinking water.
