Getting to the starting point
Those who have never visited Costa Rica before may find it difficult to figure out how to travel to Tenorio National Park. Costa Rica is a small country with easy access to all of its attractions. Nevertheless, it is highly recommended that you rent a car or hire a local guide, tour operator, to get you to your destination — it is well worth it.
The Most Important Places to Visit While Hiking in Rio Celeste
El teñidero:
Minerals from the Quebrada Agria and Rio Buena Vista rivers combine to make El Teñidero, which turns the Rio Celeste blue. Rivers that appear regular merge into a single electric blue stream in a stunning display.
Rio Celeste Waterfall:
The imposing Rio Celeste Waterfall plunges 98 feet into a pool of vivid blue water surrounded by deep tropical jungle, creating a spectacle of natural beauty. As eye-catching in person as it is in photographs, this piece is an undiscovered gem worth discovering.
The route from the ranger station to the waterfall turnoff is very flat and well-maintained, including paved sections (about twenty minutes). The rest of the trek is on unpaved terrain beyond this point. Once you’ve arrived at the waterfall’s access point, you’ll need to down around 250 steep paved stairs to reach the base of the waterfall. There is a bit of a difficulty on the return ascent, but the views are spectacular
How long is the hike to rio celeste waterfall?
Hiking from the main entrance of Tenorio Volcano Park to Rio Celeste waterfall takes about two hours (nearly 6.5km) . In reality, that means you’re going at a pretty decent clip; chances are if you’re moving at a steady pace and taking in some of nature’s beauty along the way, it’ll take closer to four hours. Bring snacks, water, sunscreen, and insect repellent—and remember that it’s better to be safe than sorry (and back home by nightfall). Also note: It can rain more heavily than usual even when there is no thunder or lightning in sight . If an approaching storm makes you uncomfortable, turning around is a good idea.
Is It Difficult?
Hiking to The Rio Celeste waterfall is a popular trip. It’s not difficult, and it’s short – about 2.5 hours there and back. You’ll need a sturdy pair of shoes, a rain jacket (the park can get wet), comfortable clothes (you’ll be hiking on steep terrain), and drinking water.
